Your details

Use your own pay and dates. Your entries stay on this device.

Leave can normally start from 11 weeks before the due week.

Use actual annual pensionable/contractual pay for your hours. The suggested pension tier uses the salary entered as a proxy; previous-year pay and individual allowances can change your actual contribution and take-home.
Recognised continuous service in another force counts. The Annex L service check is 63 weeks by the start of the expected birth week; confirm the force’s definition of a week below.
For the separate 26-week SMP service check. Enter the current employer date even if earlier service counts for occupational pay.
Where do you pay Income Tax?
Tax residence does not change the occupational agreement modelled above.
Pension and returning early
Suggested 2015 scheme band from April 2026 (12.88%, 13.88% or 14.22%). The actual tier normally uses previous-year pensionable pay; override with your payslip rate, including any reduced rate.
Leave blank to model the full 52 weeks.
Sunday is the starting assumption. Confirm with payroll; this affects the occupational service deadline, not the statutory SMP test.
Use payslips for SMP

These earnings change SMP. The occupational full-pay basis remains the annual salary you entered.

How it works

Police officers maternity pay: the scheme modelled

These stages assume the relevant occupational conditions and separate SMP rules are met.

Weeks 1–26
Full pay

SMP is part of the total.

Weeks 27–39
SMP only

If separately eligible for SMP.

Weeks 40–52
Unpaid

This model does not include the half-pay extension.

The calculator uses 2026/27 statutory and pension assumptions beyond this year where future rates are unknown. Pay rises, salary sacrifice, student loans, Maternity Allowance, shared parental leave, pension benefit accrual and one-off payroll adjustments are not modelled. A simplified fixed pension percentage is applied to paid earnings. Check your actual policy and payslip.

Police officers maternity pay questions

Who qualifies for police officer maternity pay?

Annex L normally requires 63 weeks of continuous service in one or more police forces by the start of the expected birth week. The regulations also include pregnancy/birth and notice conditions. The chief officer defines the seven-day week; check the selected week start with payroll.

Is this for police staff too?

No. Police staff contracts use different agreements and force policies. Ask HR for your staff scheme and use the general calculator to enter its stages. Officer terms should not be assumed to apply to a staff role.

Can the final full-pay weeks be stretched?

Annex L allows the last five full-pay weeks to be exchanged for ten half-pay weeks, with specific SMP-offset rules. That alternative is not included here; ask payroll for a comparison. The standard 26-week option is modelled.

What if I do not return to the force?

Do not assume the occupational element can be kept. Some published force policies impose a return period and repayment condition, even though Annex L itself does not state a national return period. Check your force’s written policy before deciding. No force-specific clawback is calculated here.

Can I use a different employer scheme?

Yes. Use the general maternity pay calculator to enter the stages in your own policy. The figures here are estimates for the named agreement, not an entitlement decision.
